Ingredients:
- 3 cups All-purpose flour, sifted
- 1 tbsp Baking powder
- 1/2 tsp Baking soda
- 1 tsp Sea salt
- 2 tsp Garlic powder
- 1 tsp Dried parsley or chives
- 1.5 cups Full-fat buttermilk, room temperature
- 2 large Eggs, lightly beaten
- 0.5 cup Unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 1 tbsp Honey
- 2 cups Sharp Cheddar cheese, freshly grated and divided
- 2 cloves Fresh garlic, minced into a paste
- 1 tbsp Melted butter for finishing
Instructions:
- Prep the heat. Set your oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a standard loaf pan.
- Whisk the dry. Combine the flour, baking powder, soda, salt, garlic powder, and herbs in a large bowl. Whisk until the mixture looks light and aerated.
- Mix the wet. In a separate jug, whisk the room temperature buttermilk, beaten eggs, 0.5 cup melted butter, and honey.
- Combine the bases. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry. Stir gently with a spatula just until no dry flour streaks remain.
- Fold in the gold. Gently fold in 1.5 cups of the grated cheddar. Stop as soon as the cheese is distributed.
- Transfer to pan. Spread the thick batter into your prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top with the back of a spoon.
- Top it off. Sprinkle the remaining 0.5 cup of cheese over the top.
- The first bake. Place in the center of the oven and bake for 40 minutes.
- Garlic finish. Mix the fresh minced garlic with the final 1 tbsp of melted butter. Brush this over the top of the bread.
- Final crisp. Bake for another 5 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and the garlic aroma is intense.
