Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cracked black pepper
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 32 oz frozen tater tots

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Brown the ground beef and diced onions in a skillet over medium high heat until the meat is mahogany colored and onions are translucent.
  3. Drain all excess grease from the pan. Note: This is the most important step to prevent soggy tots.
  4. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Whisk the condensed cream of mushroom soup and sour cream in a bowl.
  6. Fold 1/2 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese into the soup mixture.
  7. Spread the beef mixture evenly across the bottom of your 9x13-inch dish.
  8. Pour the soup mixture over the beef, smoothing it with a spatula.
  9. Arrange frozen tater tots in tight, uniform rows on top without overlapping.
  10. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the edges bubble and tots are deep golden brown.
  11. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese on top and bake 5 more minutes until melted and blistered.
