Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp cracked black pepper
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 32 oz frozen tater tots
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Brown the ground beef and diced onions in a skillet over medium high heat until the meat is mahogany colored and onions are translucent.
- Drain all excess grease from the pan. Note: This is the most important step to prevent soggy tots.
- Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Whisk the condensed cream of mushroom soup and sour cream in a bowl.
- Fold 1/2 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese into the soup mixture.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly across the bottom of your 9x13-inch dish.
- Pour the soup mixture over the beef, smoothing it with a spatula.
- Arrange frozen tater tots in tight, uniform rows on top without overlapping.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes until the edges bubble and tots are deep golden brown.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese on top and bake 5 more minutes until melted and blistered.
